The Damiano Center--Drier Than Ever
A new rubber roof was installed on the flat part of the Damiano Center this week. A. W. Kuettel & Sons, Inc. did the work, which is complete except for the addition of some metalwork. They are also going to add a gutter on the Fourth Street side of the building—part of our never-ending effort to keep the cascade of water than runs down the hill out of the building.
The flat roof covers the “new” addition to the building, which extends south along the parking lot. This classroom addition was added to Sacred Heart School in 1940. Before the roof repair, a hole several inches across had opened in the roof at the point where the rest of the roof met the flat roof. No wonder the tiles were wet on the third floor! Over the years, the material under the rubber membrane had become water-logged and rotten. No question that it was time for a new roof.
