Our Clothes that Work program is honored

with the Touchstone Award.

The Community Foundation’s Touchstone Selection Committee chose Damiano as the Touchstone bronze award winner because they created an exemplary program in helping to meet the clothing needs of low-income men and women who are employed and/or seeking employment but unable to afford appropriate work, or interview attire. Clothes that Work, started in 1982, is the only program of its kind in Duluth.

We would like to thank the following:

Patti Nadeau, Clothing Programs Coordinator
the numerous volunteers who donate their time
community members who donate items

Special thanks to those who provide financial support to Clothes That Work:

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation
the Northland Foundation
Minnesota Power
the City of Duluth
Saint Mary’s/Duluth Clinic
RBC Dain Rauscher

Clothes that Work helps to empower change in people’s lives:
• allows people to maintain dignity and respect
• Individuals and families do much better when they are working
• children gain a work ethic from watching their parents
• people feel better about themselves
• they become contributing members of the community.

Last year, the Clothes That Work program served:
870 new customers
1,202 returning customers
distributed 11,550 items of clothing.
Over 2000 people

Many individuals we help face a host of barriers including:
homelessness
mental illness
even just plain old bad luck

A job may be the key to unlocking several other big problems—such as lack of rent money, food money, car payment money; and the web of smaller problems that extends out from these basic issues. Often, people are unable to get a job because they wear improper clothes to the interviews.
